Enhancement of the Dual System of TVET in Egypt
The system of technical and vocational education in Egypt is mainly driven by Technical Secondary Schools (TSS) which in most cases provide school-based technical or vocational programmes of three years.
A special case is represented by the Dual System approach saying that having two partners responsible for training and education. The students are two days per week in one of the 134 TSS following the Dual System and four days in a company with hands-on training. Currently the total amount of students in TSS is about 1.6 million of which 25,000 (ca. 1.5 %) are attending the Dual System.
The crucial point here is the coordination between the training in companies and the theoretical education in the TSS. The contents to be trained in companies are documented in a „training plan“ and the subjects of the school-based part are documented in the respective curriculum by the Ministry of Education.
German Development Cooperation (GIZ) is planning to increase the number of trainees noticeably and to improve the quality of the TVET within the Dual System in Egypt.
